I have been retained to recruit a Maintenance Manager for a global specialty chemicals company based in Essex.
The site is a lower-tier COMAH site and are looking to grow through recruiting talent who can improve site operations.
They are happy to look outside the sector to get the right person, the KEY element is culture, planning, and deliverables on the role.

Purpose of Role:
 
The Maintenance manager will support the Head of Engineering in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations of the site and wider site offices, laboratories, and infrastructure.
Manage the delivery of maintenance on the site in line with current engineering, site, and business strategies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company standards.
Development and implementation of robust engineering routines and practices, utilising SAP to ensure maintenance schedules are executed promptly with compliance being effectively managed.
Responsible for managing and reporting engineering KPIs, with a particular focus on cost management. Leadership and development of the maintenance team ensuring resources are effectively deployed.
 
Accountabilities of the role:
 
  • Lead the Maintenance team ensuring that targets relating to SHE, Quality, output, and costs are met.
  • Establish high standards across the engineering department ensuring consistent application of SHE principles.
  • Effective housekeeping procedures in the engineering workshop, stores, and electrical switch rooms
  • Working with the Engineering Manager to develop and implement a robust Asset Integrity and Reliability Strategy whilst leveraging the SAP ERP tool to effectively plan and control maintenance activity.
  • Manage and report engineering spend, ensuring Purchase Orders are in place for all external spend, working with the purchasing team to maximise efficiencies.
  • Robust management of the engineering stores and stock therein
  • Development and implementation of KPIs, ensuring these are being routinely reported and used to drive continuous improvement in performance.
  • Support the team in the development and execution of the Site CAPEX plans.
  • Lead planning and execution of plant shutdowns.
 
Candidate focus
           
  • Formal qualification in an engineering discipline, ideally a degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading an engineering maintenance team
  • Chemical plant maintenance experience would be preferable, ideally with exposure to COMAH
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in planning/scheduling maintenance tasks utilising an ERP system, preferably SAP
  • A structured individual with a strong technical bias and attention to detail, focused on task completion.
